Cartmel Surgery Walking for Health

Walking is a great way to get fit, feel good and get that much needed fresh air in the countryside. This is why Cartmel Surgery has joined in partnership with Natural England's Walking for Health programme to take the first steps to encourage people to go out walking more.

Our weekly health walks are in and around Cartmel. The walks start from Cartmel Race Course Grandstand every Tuesday at 11am for about an hour; or, if you want to stretch your legs on a longer route of up to 4 miles, join us on the third Thursday of every month at 10.30am. The next walk is Thursday 18th August. Regular walking will keep your heart 'strong', reduce blood pressure, give you more energy and can help to reduce stress which can all help to give a better night's sleep. These walks are a great social outing as well, so come along to get fit.

We are extremely grateful to our volunteers who are leading the walks, their hard work is greatly appreciated, and if anyone else is keen to help with leading please let us know.

So would you like to have a say about the services provided at Cartmel Surgery? We would like to hear your views.

By providing your email details, we can add them to a contact list that will mean we can contact you by email every now and again to ask you a question or two.

For more information visit the PPG page on this website.

Protected Learning Time

The surgery has to take part in 'protected learning time' one day per month. This is training provided by Cumbria PCT. The next training day is Tuesday 20th September. The phones will be transferred over to CHOC from 12.30pm and there will be no afternoon surgery. If you have an emergency when the surgery is closed, please telephone 03000 247 247.

Other PLT dates for this year are Wednesday 19 October and Thursday 17 November.

Thank you for your cooperation. Staff training is essential to allow us to provide an excellent service.

Official opening of the new Cartmel Surgery

Sue Page, Chief Executive of Cumbria PCT, performed the official openingAfter six years of searching and six months of renovation work, Drs Milligan and Lovatt and their practice staff were delighted to welcome patients and local residents to view the new Cartmel Surgery facilities on Thursday 25th June. The new surgery is a short walk down Haggs Lane from the old surgery.

Cumbria Primary Care Trust Chief Executive, Sue Page, did the honours by performing a brief opening ceremony and this was followed by a blessing of the new surgery by Rev. Robert Bailey. Our thanks to them both!

The surgery will provide a larger, more modern medical environment for the growing patient list in the village and wider area. The premises have four consultation rooms, which is two more than the old Windy Nook facility which had become very cramped. There are currently some 2,000 patients registered at Cartmel Surgery.

All staff who worked at the old surgery have moved with the practice to the new premises. Our new address is Cartmel Surgery, Haggs Lane , Cartmel LA11 6PH.  The telephone number remains the same: 015395 36366.
