General information for patients
Access for people with disabilities
We have wheelchair access and toilet facilities for patients at the surgery.
Cartmel Surgery Equipment Fund
Any money donated to, or raised for the surgery is used to buy equipment to expand the range of services we can offer to our patients.
Change of name, address or telephone number
Please let the surgery know of any change of name, address or telephone number promptly so that we can keep the surgery records up-to-date.
Dental Services
If you need advice on an urgent dental problem and are not under the care of a dental practice, you should contact one of the following helplines:
| South Cumbria Bay Dental Helpline | 01539 716822 |
| North Cumbria Dental Direct | 01228 603900 |
If you live in Cumbria and are looking for regular care from an NHS dentist, the only way to find this is to add your name to NHS Cumbria's dental database. To do this you will need to complete and submit the form provided. This form is also available from the surgery.
- Dental Direct registration form [PDF format - please print out, complete and post it to the address on the bottom of the form]
Dispensary
We can dispense medications to those patients who live more than a mile from the nearest chemist.
Medical Records
Medical records are computerised at the Surgery. Access to this information is limited to the Surgery and Clinical staff. All information is governed by the strict laws of the Data Protection Act and clinical confidentiality
Rights and Responsibilities of the Patient
We aim to give an excellent service. In return you need to keep appointments or cancel them so that they can be reallocated. Violent or abusive behaviour towards any of the Surgery staff is not acceptable and may lead to exclusion from the medical list.
Suggestions or complaints
We aim to give the best possible service at all times and we welcome any suggestions for change. If you are unhappy with any aspect of our service or treatment, please tell us. We operate a Practice Complaints Procedure as part of the NHS system for dealing with complaints, which meets national criteria. Further details are available from Reception.
Trainee Doctors
Cartmel Surgery is a teaching practice, liaising with Liverpool University Medical School. At times you may be offered an appointment with a Trainee Doctor but you will still see the duty GP as well. At times they will sit in on consultations with the GP and Practice Nurse. We thank you for your co-operation as it is important for them to have 'hands on' experience!
